Our Experience
Oil Spill Response
SESME is the largest private oil spill response company in the region and is capable of responding to all levels of oil spill incident. SESME maintains a number of Tier 1 packages for crisis response or short term rental, and a full Tier 2 response package ready for immediate mobilisation either by aircraft or vessel. SESME operations are backed by the Tier 3 resources of SES in the USA, should the need arise. Since its inception, SESME has been at the forefront of response to oil spills in the region, and in 2004 the company was selected to join the Regional Clean Seas Organisation (RECSO) as their leading environmental and spill clean up company.
In addition to the countries of the Arabian Gulf, SESME’s operational area extends to the Asian side of the Caspian Sea, where the company provides Tier I and Tier 2 spill coverage for three oil companies operating in Turkmenistan. SESME’s Tier 2 fly-a-way capability also provides coverage for drilling operations in Bahrain and India. In support of SEACOR’s worldwide agreement with the United States Navy for oil spill logistics, SESME supports the US Navy’s Fifth Fleet in Bahrain.
In co-operation with a major oil spill equipment manufacturer, SESME is establishing a regional equipment maintenance facility with factory-trained representatives.
SESME has responded to numerous spills including incidents in the UAE, Iraq, Kuwait and Turkmenistan. In a recent response to a major spill in the Tigris river (Iraq) SESME was requested to mobilise a full response system specifically designed for a river spill application. This was accomplished within hours and the rapid response and subsequent clean up prevented a much larger crisis.
Hazardous Material Response
SESME has established the only hazardous material (HAZMAT) response unit in the Middle East. The company maintains a highly-trained full time response team that has attended to various acid spills and chemical spills up to Level A response. SESME’s HAZMAT response equipment includes the latest in protective clothing, communications and decontamination equipment for all levels of response.
Site Remediation
SESME has provided support to the US Army Corps of Engineering for land reclamation and fuel clean up in Iraq. The company held various contracts for over 18 months working in every facet of site remediation from hydrocarbon contamination.
Ship-to-Ship Transfers (STS)
SESME works closely with Nobel Denton Associates for the provision of ship-to-ship transfer and fender & hose rentals in the Arabian Gulf region. The SESME team has conducted over 165 successful STS operations, and the company’s fleet of fenders has grown to give it the capability to conduct three simultaneous operations anywhere in the region.
Fender Sales, Rental and Repair
SESME has a large fleet of pneumatic fenders for rental anywhere in the Middle East. The company also has well-trained and professional fender technicians to carry out repair and/or refurbishment work on fenders either at SESME’s facility or at the client’s site. SESME sells pneumatic and fixed fenders, and stocks a full array of fender spare parts.
Training and Consultancy
SESME is a provider of environmental and emergency response training programmes to the oil and gas industry throughout the region. Training courses include HAZWOPER, Incident Command System (ICS) and IMO courses for local contractors and oil company staff. SESME is the exclusive oil spill response and HSE training provider to two oil production companies, and a major provider of similar training for many of the GCC oil companies. SESME has provided training courses for the Government of Pakistan and the Maritime College of Karachi. SESME has undertaken a number of environmental and emergency consultancy projects.
